This piece was first left as a review on the website RateYourMusic. I was reviewing a bootleg recording of a DJ set by Jeff Mills, which can be listened to below. I wondered whether I should include this here since it's so short, but I like the piece.
Mills takes the rigid, industrial pulse of techno and kneads it into a face melting, rubbery, slithering funk jam. It is impossible to listen to this and not imagine the manic blur of fingers darting around over the turntables and 909. Of course the recording is lo-fi, because if it weren't the blistering speed and madness of the music would burn away the tape like holy water splashed on a devil's face.
